Losing weight for free

For those who want to lose weight for free, what is the secret? Is it a mystery beyond the pyramids, UFO's, ghostly apparitions, or the missing sock? When people look in the mirror to see their fat self it may seem to be. But it isn't hard to lose weight without spending money. Here are some ideas.

Come down with an extreme illness. As long as you get better, serious illness is a great way to shed pounds. People lose weight while in the hospital. It sounds silly, and it is silly. So let's get to some real tips.

Calorie deprivation is a great way to lose weight. That means burn more calories than you take in. Drink nothing but water to force your body to draw on fat reserves. If you have the constitution to keep this up for a whole year, you're set. Seriously, though, eating less than you burn is the way to go. It can't be only water, but replacing soda and juice with water will save you 90,000 calories, or 25 pounds, each year. Smaller portions, less soda and juice That's the simple key.

Muscle does mean a higher metabolism, and in the long term it means less work because you're burning more calories even while doing nothing.

Workouts for burning fat

When you have the perseverance to stick with fat burning workouts they become pretty simple. In no time you'll be slimmer and trimmer if you combine them with a healthy eating plan.

Another way to avoid slow metabolism is to make sure to eat enough every day. For most people this means consume a minimum of 1200 calories each day. Any fewer and your body is back in starvation mode, working against your efforts to burn fat.

How to lose weight fast

There's no doubt that many people need to lose a few pounds. Walk around where people gather, you'll notice the fat. Look in the mirror, unfortunately you'll likely see it there too. If you've made fast weight loss your goal, keep a few simple things in mind to take off the pounds quickly and safely.

Skipping meals is one of the first things people often try when they want to lose weight. It makes sense, right, cut out the calories by eating one fewer meal. Doesn't weight loss come with eating less calories? That's correct but skipping meals isn't the right way to reduce calories. When you skip meals your body goes into starvation mode. It starts to retain fat to counteract what it perceives as a food shortage. Another problem with skipping meals is that when you finally eat you'll be a lot more hungry. The result is binge eating. Skipping meals is the worst of both worlds that results in gaining even more weight. Don't skip meals.

Have a plan on how much to eat. Portion control is just as important as eating the right food. Too much of even a healthy food still results in weight gain. Portion control isn't easy when large portions are so common. Restaurants serve over large portions, as do most people at home. Sources such as the FDA list recommended daily allowances. And remember portion size when you eat at restaurants, especially fast food restaurants. You'll likely have to cut down on what a restaurant serves.

Eat more whole grain foods, skip the white grains such as white bread, sugar and white rice. Whole grains are rich in nutrients and low in fat. The fiber in whole grains will make you feel fuller faster and longer. Also whole grains contain many nutrients that are often lacking in people's diets.

Drink more water. Drink it instead of juices and sodas which add about 90,000 calories to the average person's diet each year. Drink it between meals too. In fact, the goal is 8 glasses of water each day. It's easily possible. Drinking water will also promote health in general by keeping you well hydrated and helping to avoid overheating.

Eat healthy snacks between meals. The body needs food every three to four hours to maintain proper blood sugar. Healthy snacks also help control eating at meal times.

Fast weight loss isn't impossible with a little knowledge and planning. It won't be long before you're slimmer and trimmer.

The three day weight loss program

The "3 Day Diet" dates back to 1985 and today can be found all over the Internet and on book store shelves. The three day diet and its variants boast quick weight loss, a cleansing of the system, lower cholesterol and increased energy all through a "specific metabolic reaction" that no version of the diet has ever validated. The diet is to be followed for only 3 days, with an off period of generally 5 days in between diet times. All the versions of this diet share in common specific steps that must be followed and foods that must be eaten in order for the diet to work. What better way to blame the dieter when it doesn't work than "you botched the formula."

Breakfast on the first day begins with coffee (no sugar), one half a grapefruit, and a piece of toast with 1 Tbsp peanut butter. Lunch is a can of tuna, a piece of toast, and black coffee. For dinner it's 3 ounces of chicken or lean meat, a cup of green beans, one cup of carrots, one apple, and one cup of regular vanilla ice cream. The other two days of the diet are relatively similar in meal quantity, though the specifics change, for example Day 2 recommends two beef franks for dinner in place of three ounces of lean meat. Supposedly it's possible to lose as much as 10 pounds in only three days.

Hogwash is the answer. The question is what is a specific reaction to that claim? There is no evidence for the so-called "specific metabolic reaction." The only reason this diet would shed pounds is because of the lack of calories in the diet. In fact, because the diet is so low in carbohydrates a person could lose ten pound in three days. Of course most of that would be water weight because carbohydrates encourage the body to retain water. By the way, losing that much weight from not retaining water is dangerous as the body needs water to survive.

Because of binge eating after such starvation and because most of the weight lost is from water, the weight will quickly return after the three days. Deprive the body of water in three day cycles enough times and a person could develop kidney damage, dehydration, or a host of other dangerous conditions.

The 3 day diet is best treated as a no day diet. In other words, don't do it.
